Traditional Japanese sweets have a long history. They are an important part of monthly events that mark the time of year. So, the coloring and design of the sweets change according to the season. They are made from rice flour with a sweet red bean paste filling and are traditionally enjoyed as a complement to Japanese green tea. So, why not try out the experience with the beautifully crafted sweets you have made yourself? Sessions are in English.

  • You do not need to wear anything special or bring anything with you.
  • Traditional materials are used, so we cannot make special dietary accommodations. However, these sweets do not contain animal products.
  • If you would prefer to take the sweets you have made away with you, you are welcome to do so. However, they have a low keep time and are best eaten the same day that you make them.
  • These are small but open sessions. Sorry, we don’t offer private sessions at this time, nor can we offer wheelchair or physical disability access.
  • Children under fourteen years old need to be supervised by an adult attendee. If the child is under four years old, and with an adult, they can attend free of charge.
  • People who want to observe, but not participate need to pay the full session fee.
  • Please arrive around five minutes before the scheduled start time. Sorry, session times cannot be extended for late arrivals.
  • For a cancellation refund, you must cancel at least 24 hours before the scheduled start time.

From  Shijo Station 4 minutes’ walk

At Shijo Station on the Kyoto Subway, take Exit 6 up to street level. Head right until you come to Bukoji-dori Street. Turn right onto Bukoji-dori Street and walk ahead. Keep going past two main intersections, and we are on the left, next to a Japanese restaurant.

From  Karasuma Station 6 minutes’ walk

At Karusuma Station on the Hankyu Line, take Exit 25 up to street level. Go left along Shijo-dori Street for one full block, and turn left onto Shimmachi-dori Street. Walk straight ahead past one main intersection. At the second main intersection, turn right onto Bukoji-dori Street. We are on the left, next to a Japanese restaurant.
